Lt. Colonel Ernie Stoakley

Lieutenant-Colonel Ernest A. Stoakley MSM OHG
March 24, 1944 – May 27, 20212

Ernie is lovingly remembered by his wife Susan, a Milady of the Garrison, his daughter Lynne and his son Christopher and their families. He died peacefully after a short illness. One of his proudest accomplishments was his own recruiting company, which he successfully led for 35 years. Ernie was a military gentleman since his teen years. He retired as a Captain with the Ontario Regiment and was a driving force in the 78th Fraser Highlanders.

Ernie was one of the early members of York Garrison and is fondly remembered for his rich knowledge of military history and impressive collection of Fraser Highlander regalia. He served as Officer Commanding in the early years and was a leading member of the Honourable Guard throughout his tenure. He was a consummate character and one of the reasons the regimental dinners of his day were so very memorable.
